When POG VC listed the Greenstone Patent for sale on eBay, she could not have envisioned that one David Watson, Chairman of the International Hemp Association (IHA), "Dedicated to the advancement of Cannabis through the dissemination of information," based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and author of the tome Hemp Diseases and Pests: Management and Biological Control: An Advanced Treatise as well as the Journal of Industrial Hemp, would embark on an email campaign (border-line ballistic) to match no other in POG VC's experience.

First, let's get the emails out of the way:

Question from DAVID WATSON, June 18th:

My main question is easy if you haven't done this yet how can you get a patent on an unproven process? I am assuming that you have not done all in the patent as I haven't seen or heard of any trans-genic plants or bacteria that produce THC or THCA or any other Cannabinoids and I keep up with the current research and work in the field. I heard maybe 6 years ago about the tobacco roots that produced THC synthase and am good friends with Dr. Yukihiro Shoyama who's work it was, I even attended the conference where the work was first presented. Also in the USA a DEA license for THC etc will be required to do the work, good luck getting one. By the way, THC is just part of the picture, it is the terpenoids modifying the THC that does most of the work, creating Cannabis that is up or down, speedy or slow, clear or cloudy, couchlock or stimulating. You would not like 100% pure THC, boring...

Well that's a great setup of a question - drawing a scholar like yourself from the woodwork makes a listing on eBay.com well worth the effort.

Re: Why can you patent an untested process? This is an established method designed to protect small inventors who understand a process, however lack start-up costs available to larger more powerful companies. It is an equalizer that levels a playing field so that large companies do not monopolize all intellectual property. What a patent does is explore the technology (gratsi Dr. Shoyama et al for all your hard work...) and given a set of legal vocabulary lock in a set of possible processes. Re: you would not like 100% THC. It's not about human consumption. The focus of this patent is on the anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-larval activities of THC. The language in the patent is clear. You are strongly encouraged to read the patent in full and understand more completely the process, and again, thank you for your inquiry; you are also strongly encouraged to be the top bidder! You are correct that I only scanned the patent quickly but I thought I read that the produced THC could be smoked? I assume that is by humans? As for the patent, I have non Cannabis plants that produce THC already, for several years. I have not published the work for reasons that will become clear in the future. But I can say that it will soon be impossible for police to find all the "Cannabis" as several species of plants can be made to make THC. How can you get a patent on a process that has been published? (inserting the THC synthase into tobacco roots?) I thought the work had to be new? Anyway I was wondering if you have done any work in this field or if the patent is just an intellectual exercise?

Patent law is a rather complex infrastructure, and it took me a few years to really get a handle on it. As this is my first patent I have had it reviewed by the patent attorneys of Johnson & Johnson (Enzymatic-THC.com) and they'll tell you too - this is a rock solid patent. Kudos on your science - am very much looking forward to learning the fruits of your labors - Good luck & happy bidding!

Question (unbelievably) from DAVID WATSON, June 20th:

How can you get a patent on a process that has been published? (inserting the THC synthase into tobacco roots?) I thought the work had to be new? Have you done GM plant or bacteria lab work? I have my own in-vitro lab. I have several pharmaceutical patents, they are worthless without the funds to defend them, and even more important patents are often issued by the patent office because they don't have a full understanding of the issues and when challenged in court the patent is found to be no good. For numerous reasons, prior art often being the reason. I have many doubts about your provisional patent, time will tell. I guarantee you can find a patent firm that will try and patent anything, will it stand up to a court challenge? That is the question. As for smoking the THC as I asked about, I refer to your statement in the patent. "One might as a means of last resort set fire to the growth medium to convert THCA to THC--which upon inhaling provides neuroprotection (Hampson 1998) (Van der Stelt 2001) (Mechoulam 2001) (USPTO U.S. Pat. No. 6,630,507)." (POG VC calls this 'grasping at straws.')

This is clearly human consumption, or am I wrong? Another question I have is what is the reason you did this? Is it for personal profit or something else? I can suggest to you that no one will buy a THC patent on eBay for $7,000,000.00 but what do I know?

I saw you listed several references from my Journal, the Journal of the International Hemp Association. I started the organization in 1991 and as Chairman oversaw the publication of 26 issues, V0l. 1 issues 1&2 - Vol. 13 isuues 1&2, we have just run out of funding and are considering what to do about the future of the JIH. Our last issue was Dec 2008. Have you seen the issues that are not online, issues 7.1 - 13.2? 14 newer issues that are not online have a lot of info you may have found interesting. We were the only science based Cannabis journal when we started 15 years ago, I am sure we made the world a better place with our motivation being simple: "Dedicated to the advancement of Cannabis, through the dissemination of information". If you sell your patent for $7,000,000.00 please consider donating some of the money to the IHA, then we can publish for a few more years at least. (UNBELIEVABLE!)

ELLEN VIRGINIA NASH

Ellen Virginia Nash (‘ENIE’) comes to mind every time I go to The New Basics Cookbook by Rosso & Lukins, the authors of the Silver Palate cookbooks. Seldom is cooking a ham (weight, time, temperature) on a need to know basis. This ham, however, is meant for ham biscuits at today’s celebration of Frances Brand’s ‘First’s’ series. If ever there was a ‘First’ it was Ellen Virginia Nash who was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Virginia Law School.* ENIE presented me with the cookbook one evening in her cottage at Kenwood after my having brought her favorite supper, steak and salad. Pearson, ENIE's long-time friend who worked for her at Kenwood and later cared for her through a crippling disease, set the tables with fine silver and plates. We supped that last meal together soon before ENIE passed in 1993. Oddly, the cooking of this ham is poignant for many reasons.

Kenwood was designed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s architect cousin, William A. Delano, and it lies just beyond Monticello across the road. The cottage is close to the main house and was designed especially for President Roosevelt's use (called the ‘Little White House’ by Life Magazine); that is the cottage where ENIE lived. The estate was built for and owned by Frances Nash Watson, a world-renowned pianist and ENIE's aunt. Kenwood is now headquarters of the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson studies, bequeathed to the University upon ENIE's death, which has a long-term lease with the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

Another fond memory is the piano concert given in memoriam to Frances, hosted by ENIE, who was in a wheel chair at that point. It was the first and only time I had been in the main house. The sounds of the music, in concert with the setting sun and incredible vista through the large windows looking toward Monticello were unforgettable.

*05/16 Unbelievably, I woke up this morning and wondered if BRANDY has painted ENIE ... AND THE ANSWER IS YES ... the baking of the ham has come full circle!

This painting by FRANCES CHRISTIAN BRAND is a portrait of Dr. Nathan Johnson, first African American faculty member, University of Virginia School of Education. Many of BRANDY'S works are unidentified and it is hoped that people will come forward with any information regarding her unknown works which are at the Charlottesville Albemarle Historical Society.

L'HÔTEL MONTICELLO STILL STANDING

Construction of L'HÔTEL Monticello (L'HÔTEL) at 500 Court Square started in 1924 and opened in 1926. The building was designed by architect Stanhope Johnson of Johnson and Brannan. It was a full-scale five-star hotel hosting many famous guests including Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, band leaders Tommy Dorsey and Guy Lombardo, writer Gertrude Stein, and movie stars Robert Taylor, Sterling Hayden, and Joan Blondell. The dining room of the Monticello Hotel was locally renowned until it closed in 1989 and was converted into office space now housing the law firm of Michie Hamlett Lowry Rasmussen & Tweel. Today L'HÔTEL houses luxury condominium apartments (well, sort of luxury) and POG VC, who has resided there for twenty years, can guarantee L'HÔTEL will not go the way of the Landmark 'Luxury' Hotel or the Greenbrier Resort. Why? Because we the people own and operate it, with a frugal Board that sees to it that we stay IN THE BLACK.

On August 2, 1927 a few minutes after 8 p.m. the 'largest searchlight in the world' lit up the sky from on L'HÔTEL's roof, which was claimed to be visible three hundred miles away. The light scanned the heavens over Charlottesville, and was often pointed at distant Monticello at night. A very good article was reprinted in Lighthouse Digest (taken from an old Daily Progress article) in September, 2005.

Built by Sperry for army use in spotting airplanes at night, the searchlight was given to Charlottesville as a gift by the Virginia Public Service Company (now Dominion Power). It was named The Thomas Jefferson Light (what else?) and would be operated by linemen from the power company.

Directly across the street is the historic Albemarle County Courthouse. Construction of the first building was from 1763 and 1781. Additions were made 1803 and 1860, and the building was remodeled and restored in 1938.

The Thomas Jonathan 'Stonewall' Jackson Monument to the west of the courthouse building in Jackson Park was unveiled in 1921. Jackson detested riding and the pony is a bit diminutive. He liked it that way; small and steady (gait). The gardens on the 17,500 square foot are exquisite, planted to rotate with the seasons.

Living in the Historic District has been a wonderful pleasure for the past two decades. Y'ALL COME and see L'HÔTEL, a relative success story in Charlottesville! No Crack Heads, no Meth Heads and no Old White Clubs. Just a beautiful building with stories that would defy the Fawlty Towers scriptwriters. "88" Keys Wilson who worked at L'HÔTEL for five decades, the elderly lady who rode up and down the elevator for hours sitting on a Chippendale bench dead, and a cast of characters one could not make up. One sad note: this Spring we lost our building manager Bill Muller. More than just a manager, Bill was a person who we all miss very much. L'HÔTEL doesn't seem the same without him.

The (i) Green- brier Hotel Corp., the (ii) Green- brier Resort and Club Management Co., the (iii) Greenbrier IA, Inc., the (iv) Old White Development Co., the (v) Old White Club Corp., and the (vi) Greenbrier Golf and Tennis Corp., debtors, (GREENBRIER- PATCH) have filed for Chapter 11 in The United States Bankruptcy Court for The Eastern District of Virginia Richmond Division. B'rer Rabbit says, "Yep, they-all gonna beat C'ville's Crack House down. We-all got a betta, bigga Meth House with a few stills thrown in the back forty for good luck here in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, now that 'ole GREENBRIER- PATCH is IN THE BRIAR PATCH!"

'America's Most Fabulous Decorator' Dorothy Draper who decorated the GREENBRIER- PATCH, a landmark (another landmark!) hotel since the 1770's, may be IN THE PINK but 'ole GREENBRIER-PATCH is IN THE RED! An auction will be conducted on June 12, 2009, at 10:00 Eastern Time at the offices of McGuire Woods LLP in Richmond, Virginia. GREENBRIER- PATCH owes $100,000,000 - $500,000,000$ and of course debtors are blaming the poor economic environment. Just the Old White Club whining. Donald Trump was looking at it but let's face it, is Ivanka who works for her dad going to be spending any time in West Virginia? Paris, Manhattan, South Beach, London and White Sulphur Springs? I think not.

C'VILLE CRACK HOUSE

C'Ville is now the home of the largest CRACK HOUSE in the country, i.e., the world. The skeletal remains of the Landmark (landmark is correct!) Hotel are now being shrouded in plywood. The final nails are in the coffin of the planned luxury hotel, set to open on July 4th of this year. City planner Jim Tolbert says the site is presently being secured by Clancy & Theys workers before it is abandoned. CRACK HOUSE is goin' be ready for big Indy Pendence Day doin's, but not by the crackheads, as one would think, but by the usually non-violent residents of C'Ville.

During the 1980's the strongest economy in many dwindling inner cities was the drug trade. In POG VC's home state of New York, a devastating result of property abandonment in areas such as Brooklyn, South Bronx, South Jamaica and Queens was the destruction by fires, leaving entire city blocks literally burned out. Abandoned buildings laid waste by neglect and/or arson naturally became, yeah, CRACK HOUSE's. Enraged citizens often finished the job, burning down these abandoned building in the hope of killing off the crackheads as the drug trade brought violent crimes to their already hopeless situations. Charlottesville's CRACK HOUSE exacerbates the empty space currently on the Downtown Mall. The first sight POG VC encounters when walking from her front door down the adjoining 5th Street to the mall is EMPTY Order From Horder, EMPTY Army and Navy Store, and EMPTY Sage Moon Gallery to name a few. Of course, the bricks look great and the Paramount is beautiful . . . quite an up-scale 'hood for the crackheads. Ought to make their lives fairly pleasant. Maybe take in a show and have a nice meal at one of the local feeding posts, and watch the FIREWORKS at Midnight. Crackheads should have a great view from the 'penthouse' floor. Crackheads know this is America because they can see Monticello from their CRACK HOUSE. And Mr. Jefferson is rolling over in his grave.

FLAVORY celebrated his fiftieth birthday at BB King's in Times Square, New York. Won't be anything like that FLAVY here in C'Ville. POG's Parker and VC walked out of the BB King concert at the Charlottesville Pavillion because there wasn't anything happening. We knew it was a loser when local FAVEYEli Cook couldn't get the crowd going with his opening act. Of course, the Pavillion SS were on the job: can't stand, can't get out of one's seat, and nobody parties. BB left no incentive with an opening monologue that put the audience to sleep (an easy accomplishment in C'Ville) so we booked.

LAW OF GRAVITY (LOUNGE)

Sir Isaac Newton's Universal Law of Gravitation: Each particle of matter attracts every other particle with a force which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them or, WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN. Our own C'Ville Gravity Lounge came crashing down with a huge thud this month, weighted by a ton of $DEBT$ that was the apple that broke Bill Baldwin's head wide open and created another empty space on the Downtown Mall.

According to landlord Ludwig Kuttner rent has not been paid for more than two years on the club and he is owed over a GREEN $200,000$. Of course Mr. Kuttner has personally felt 'WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN.' In October of 2006 Ludwig Kuttner was fired from his position(s) of Chairman, President and Executive Officer of of Hampshire Group, Limited (NASDAQ-HAMP), which he founded, the largest American men's sweater company featuring American brand names as Geoffrey Beene, Dockers, Levi's, Wrangler and Spring+Mercer. POG VC has read the blogs, read the newspapers and listened to the radio broadcasts regarding the Gravity Lounge's demise. There's lots of talk from being a wonderful venue we're losing to Bill Baldwin being 'set up.' HUH? Who couldn't create a wonderful whatever without the burden of paying rent? POG VC rented studio space in Charlottesville for twelve years, paying consistently on time. One (slum) landlord, Mrs. Anne E. Albright, kicked POG VC out of her Elliewood studio after three years of paying rent on time, cleaning (including paying to have the carpet professionally cleaned) and painting, taking her security deposit for nail holes! POG's crime: having the nerve to complain that the building sup was constantly entering the property with explicit instructions not to and stealing. Yep, last thing he admittedly took was a brand new air conditioner. HUH? POG VC shoutout: "Hey, I've got a great idea for a music club . . . Coran or Ludwig or anyone who wants to foot the bill for two years while I create come on down." Couple of $HUNDRED THOUSAND$ capital, yeah!

*Estouteville is an historic Coles (POG VC's in-laws) family estate. The structure was started in 1827, the year after Jefferson's death, by John Coles III whose family was well known to Jefferson. Coles named the estate after his wife’s ancestor, Robert d’Estouteville, a Norman baron who accompanied William the Conquerer to England. It is an architectural wonder. Rumor has it that the classically detailed doric entabulature with ox-skull metopes in the spacious center hall was painted black by Mrs. Ost-Kuttner. PARADISE RANCH

This morning FOX News’ Megyn Kelly and Bill Hemmer hosted a couple of duffers from the old days at Paradise Ranch (Area 51) known as ‘Roadrunners’ (videmus omnis “We see all.”) who were speaking for the first time of their experiences there. Known as ‘The Grandfather of Stealth’ Ninety-year-old Edward Lovick, (shown here holding a model of the SR-71 Blackbird next to his, what else, Mustang) spoke about the A-12 ‘Oxcart’ aircraft in the context of being mistaken for UFOs. Known as C.I.A. Article #128 (Serial #60-06931), the Oxcart never achieved the operational experiences of the rest of the A-12 Articles, although it was the first operationally outfitted A-12 to reach Mach 3, that is 2,200 m.p.h. at 90,000 feet altitude. Thorton "T.D." Barnes, former CIA electronics expert, said "For many years, we couldn't talk about anything we did. They've taken the lid off it where we can, so while we still can mentally and physically, we're going to get some of the stories out." Stories, indeed.

Lovick was the first radar reduction physicist to work (1957-1990) at the then Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in the SKUNK WORKS facility in of all places Burbank, California, on developing an invisible aircraft, that is, invisible to radar. The A-12 ‘Oxcart’ known as C.I.A. Article #128 (Serial #60-06931) never achieved the operational experiences of the rest of the A-12 Articles. It was the first operationally outfitted A-12 to reach MACH 3. It isn’t for nothing he’s called ‘Radar Man’ which is the title of a book he is co-authoring with Annie Jacobsen. Radar Man claims UFO sightings by commercial and military pilots were attributable to Oxcart's (flying 2,850 missions) highly reflective titanium shell, high altitude and velocity. Members of the International Roadrunners all worked at Groom Lake, better known today as Area 51, where House 6, the Groom Lake barracks that became the bar and poker room at the base was located. Sometimes the men would be gone for weeks at a time prompting jokes about second families. Both Lovick and Barnes were very clear in the FOX news interview that members of their families knew absolutely nothing regarding their respective activities in the military. One may ask "How can this be?" H-m-m-m...Stepford wives syndrome, wouldn't you say?

The roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is New Mexico's state bird, sometimes called a chaparrel cock or bird. Officially adopted March 16, 1949, in Spanish, it is called "El Correcaminos.” The comical roadrunner prefers running to flying and has been clocked at speeds of fifteen miles per hour. They are approximately twenty-two inches in length and their diet consists of insects, lizards, centipedes, mice and snakes. The roadrunner is quick enough to catch and eat rattlesnakes!

GOOD FIRST DOGGIE BO!

Our First Doggie Bo is creating a world-wide frenzy. He happens to be a Portuguese water dog (Portie) who are known to be independent, intelligent, and loving. They enjoy being petted and are friendly to strangers (Secret Service nightmare). Porties are easily trained in obedience and agility skills: "When the president of the United States got up and walked across the room," says Washington Post reporter Manuel Roig Franzia, "the dog, clearly having a very good understanding of who rules in this town, got up and followed the president!" GOOD DOGGIE BO! There are some who could take a lesson in obedience from Bo.

Bo is a gift from Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who owns three Portuguese water dogs; Splash, Sunny and Cappy. Splash is the fictional narrator in Kennedy's childrens' book My Senator and Me: A Dog's-Eye View of Washington, D.C. It follows Portie Splash as he tries to help his master, the senator, go about his daily life and pass an education bill. It also explains how a bill becomes a law, the roles of Congress and the Senate and other details of the U.S. system of government, plus biographies of Splash and Kennedy. Karl Rove, often referred to as a pitbull, will be twitterin' and tweetin' about how the White House is manipulating the flow of information to the press. Grumpy Newt Gingrich thinks the dog-press frenzy is 'stupid' and 'who cares?' Newt, we all care! We all need the little bit of sunshine a new puppy can bring to the nation. Top Republican dog Rush Limbaugh reportedly said on his radio show, "Portuguese. The dog is Portuguese. For all we know he's an illegal alien, and, you got it folks, a Muslim. I demand to see his papers." Bo is an all-American, wrapped in the flag patriot!

The drawing on the First Amendment Community Chalk Board by Pete O’Shea represents the 'Muzzle' awards presented today by the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. (Muzzles: A dirty dozen by The Daily Progress staff, Published April 7, 2009.) The free expression monument designed by architects Peter O’Shea and Robert Winstead is winning awards as well. It has been nominated and is in the final-five running for the 2009 Rudy Bruner Award, which recognizes excellent urban places around the country. Among the other nominees is Millennium Park in Chicago.

A Democratic Republican joint Muzzle award was given citing their complete indifference and their lack of speaking out regarding protests and protesters at both 2008 conventions. 'Free speech zones' were created in fenced compounds far from the convention delegates upon whom the protests were to affect. 800 arrests (including journalists with permits there merely to cover the protests) with very few prosecutions indicate an over-zealous reaction by the state.

The Charlottesville downtown mall wall is located directly in front of Charlottesville’s City Hall, next to the city’s amphitheater. The monument consists primarily of a two-sided wall of Buckingham slate , approximately 54 feet long (108’ of writing space) by 7.5 feet high. In addition, the monument’s design includes a podium intended to serve as a contemporary soapbox from which individuals may address public gatherings. It received the 2008 Tucker Architectural Award for best use of natural stone. Now that's Greenstone!

In a feature that sponsors believe is unique, visitors to the site will be able to erase or alter others’ messages. Some like Kevin Cox believe the feature is a weakness in the design of both the slate and the online chalkboards. “It’s not sending an accurate message about what free speech is,” said Cox; “Free speech isn’t about silencing someone who you don’t like what they said...Americans look at free expression as something that embodies tolerance.”

A perfect method of understanding and intrepreting is seeing mathematically’an objective way of looking at stuff and it’s all beautiful. Just as an isosceles triangle has two equal sides and two equal angles the tiff among Pundit Ann Coulter (AC/DC), Maverick Meghan McCain (MMM) Laura Ingraham (LILI) is certainly not a regular polygon. The ladies are similar in many ways; blond hair, Republican, each passionate in what she believes, their zones ergodic not erotic, and scrappers all. The differences are pronounced; MMM in her early 20s born to the military manor, while AC/DC and LILI both in their 40s have come up hard in the academic/political world.

AC/DC helped found The Cornell Review as an undergrad, graduated cum laude from Cornell, was an editor of the Michigan Law Review and attained membership in the Order of the Coif at Michigan. After that AC/DC went to work.

LILI was the editor-in-chief of the Dartmouth Review, earned a law degree and her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia. LILI also served briefly as editor of the Prospect a magazine out of Princeton’s alumni. After that LILI went to work.

MMM received her Bachelor Degree from Columbia University and subsequently went on the campaign with her dad, Senator John McCain. MMM then set up her blog 'McCain Blogette,' saying "We were basically loosely inspired by Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail." Huh? Hunter Thompson? Gonzo journalism? What? MMM is presently a contributor to Tina Brown's 'The Daily Beast' blog.

Who knows the details of the antagonism? It all came to a head when MMM sounded off on the View television show with a Tyra Banks scr-e-e-e-e-e-d "You can kiss my fat a**!" in answer to critics (AC/DC & MMM) of her weight. Lots of accusations, retorts and reports but bottom line it is the dynamic that is important, not the details of who said what. One thing for sure, Tyra has real green eyes and no envy about her.

Looks like a Sierpinski Tetrahedron to POG VC, a 3-dimensional model of a fractal tetrahedron illustrating scaling at different levels. Beautiful, fractal (displaying self-similarity), fractured. No competition, no jealousy, no jive.

GREEN FAERIES & ELVES

There are lots of references to 'The Green Faerie' on Greenstone and for good reason. POG VC, pictured above in her green faerie garb, spent a good deal of time searching for (Amanita muscaria) mushrooms which often grow in faerie rings in the forests near her home. Legend has it that if one finds a faerie ring (also known as a faerie circle, elf circle or pixie) ring and returns to it under the full moon he or she will come upon faeries, elves and pixies dancing and celebrating. The mushrooms of the rings were used as stools for the faeries to recuperate during the festivities.

The Amanita muscaria is a highly poisonous species and if ingested can be fatal. The beauty of the creature, for mushrooms are creatures, far outweighed POG VC's mother's warning "If you get sick from those mushrooms I'm taking your colored pencils away!" The reason for that threat was POG VC was obsessed with rendering the Amanita. In fact, one of the most beautiful drawings POG VC accomplished as a 'Tween was a faerie circle of Amanita which she presented to her mother on Mother's Day. POG VC never found a faerie circle of Amanita but she did revisit her quest upon landing ('cause that's what POG VC does) in West Marin County where there was an amazing population of Amanita muscaria, faeries and elves, who not only danced under the full moon but took bites of the Amanita muscaria when so doing.

The Point Reyes Peninsula in West Marin County, California is a green faerie's dream and is truly an Island In Time. (Island In Time: Point Reyes Peninsula, Sierra Club 1962.) The farthest point west on the Continental United States it has been moving up the coast from Baja for millennia. POG VC lived just outside Point Reyes Station on the Inverness Ridge where the population of the town and surrounding area is a little more than 800. Separated from the continent by the San Andreas Fault, the Point is designated back country and is home to the Point Reyes National Seashore.

A green faerie and elf haven, living there was nothing short of magical. Whales, seals, abalone, egrets, eagles, red-tailed hawks, owls, pelicans, deer, rabbits, POG VC's fave the dusky-footed wood rat (Neotoma fuscipes), and an occasional mountain lion abound. Guided 'mushroom walks' take place in Point Reyes and the Park Service hosts an annual 'Point Reyes Fungus Fair' at the Bear Valley Visitors Center. A mushroom paradise - Amanita muscaria, wild chanterelles (Cantharellus) to die for, the size of a top sirloin steak (and much better tasting), and of course 'Dr. Bob's' (Growing Wild Mushrooms: A Complete Guide to Cultivating Edible and Hallucinogenic Mushrooms by Bob Harris) psilocybin parties. POG VC met an unnamed astronaut who walked on the moon at a Dr. Bob party and it was at the same party that Monroe Grisman a mere boy a the time stated that he would marry POG VC when he grew up (in the top ten compliments this POG has received).

The Daddy of Green Elves lived about fifty miles as the crow flies from Point Reyes through Nicasio past the somewhat creepy Druids Hall, down Lucas Valley Road (already named when George Lucas bought Skywalker Ranch) in San Anselmo: George Ivan Morrison 'Van the Man.' Van's parents ran a little record store there called what else VAN's. Mr. and Mrs. Morrison looked like two little leprechauns with Mr. Morrison smoking his Meerscham pipe. Good Irish stock and my first inkling that they were parents to a green elf (Thank You Falettinme Be Mice elf Agin). In the early '70s Van the Man used to play in a little venue called the Lion Share in San Anselmo. One evening on POG VC'S thirty-something birthday she, her best friend Susan Deixler and a few other people decided to go to the Lion Share. It was in the middle of the week and we didn't expect it to be crowded. We also didn't expect that Van the Man would be playing...but he was...to us and just a few others. I noticed then he had all the qualities of an elf; youthful for his age, diminutive size, living in a natural place of great beauty, immortal and possessing mystical powers. "We were born before the wind, Also younger than the sun...Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic," Moondance, 1970. From that time until today POG VC remembers that wonderful, magical birthday party with the Daddy of Green Elves serenading the Green Faerie.

TOM'S GREEN THUMB

Thomas Jefferson was an ardent planter and an agricultural expert, growing hundreds of varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs and trees at Monticello, his 5,000-acre estate in Charlottesville, Virginia. Jefferson's gardening philosophy, ranging from plant selection to garden design, are back in vogue as more people return to gardening with an emphasis on 'green.' Jefferson knew the value of native species, which require less maintenance and are far more likely to survive. Jefferson's garden journal spanned sixty years and is supplemented by letters about his experiences cultivating the gardens, orchards and vineyards of Monticello. His answer to European criticism of North American native plants as inferior was "The greatest service which can be rendered any country is to add a useful plant to its culture."

Vegetables were a favorite of Mr. Jefferson and he cultivated two hundred and fifty varieties of seventy species of vegetables in his 1,000-foot-long garden. He was passionate about peas, growing twenty-two varieties, and challenged his neighbors to a competition every spring to see who could get the first English peas to the table. Jefferson ate little meat, filling his plate with vegetables and using flavorings such as tarragon vinegar and sesame oil. He regarded weeds as green manure and today use of organic fertilizers, natural pesticides and irrigation parallel what Jefferson did in the 19th century. This includes using brush for the staking of peas and building composted hills for squashes, melons and beans. In Notes on the State of Virginia he wrote "Cultivators of the earth are the most virtuous and independent citizens."

"I never before knew the full value of trees. My house is entirely emblossomed in high plane-trees, with good grass below; and under them I breakfast, dine, write, read, and receive my company. What would I not give that the trees planted nearest round the house at Monticello were full grown." Jefferson to Martha Randolph 1793. Well they're full grown now, Mr. Jefferson! While serving as Minister to France between 1784 and 1789 Jefferson proudly distributed seeds of North American trees to friends in Europe. He has been described as "the father of American forestry" for the planting of white pine and hemlock in 1804. Two months before his death, at the age of eighty-three, he designed an arboretum for the University of Virginia. Said Jefferson, "Too old to plant trees for my own gratification I shall do it for posterity."

President Thomas Jefferson also used trees metaphorically, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." In the years leading up to the war, the British made the Liberty Tree an object of ridicule. British soldiers tarred and feathered a man named Ditson, and forced him to march in front of the trees. During the siege of Boston, about the last day of August 1775, a party of Loyalists led by Job Williams defiantly cut the tree down in an act of spite, knowing what it represented to the colonists, and used the tree for firewood. This act only further enraged the colonists. As resistance to the British grew, flags bearing a representation of the Liberty Tree were flown to symbolize the unwavering spirit of liberty. These flags were later a common sight during the battles of the American Revolution.

It appears Mr. Jefferson was our First Treehugger!

GREEN LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON ~ On March 24th Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio) introduced legislation to limit the use of phosphates in automatic dishwashing detergents, which would help to reduce phosphates that wreak havoc on aquatic plants and fish in the Great Lakes and other waters. Senator Voinovich said. “This mandated nationwide change to a household product Americans use every day will make a difference in the health of nation’s most important natural resources from this day forward." The Levin-Voinovich bill would limit the use of phosphates in
residential dish detergent by requiring the EPA, beginning in 2010, to ban the sale of residential dish washing detergent that has more than 0.5% phosphorous nationally. A Minnesota study published in 2005 estimated that dish washing detergent accounts for nearly 19 percent of the total amount of phosphorus entering municipal waste water systems each year. Additional cosponsors include Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.).

Phosphorus is a nutrient essential to both plant and animal life, but aquatic plants require far less phosphorus than land-based organisms. Excess amounts of phosphorus in water-bodies accelerate a process known as eutrophication, or the rapid growth of algae, which causes dense algal blooms to occur. Algal blooms also cause severe environmental damage by killing fish and other aquatic organisms and result in “dead zones” that favor the survival of invasive species such as carp over native species; as well, Algal blooms cause human health problems with the formation of blue-green algae, or cyanobacteria, which can produce neurotoxins and hepatotoxins, which affect the liver. These toxins are deadly when ingested (or worn) by humans.

A little over a month before the start of the 2008 Olympic Games the venue for the sailing events in Qingdao has been invaded by a forest of blue green algae. City officials say they'll need at least two weeks to clear the coastal waters, mobilizing 10,000 workers aboard 1,000 boats.

The Oregon Senate voted Monday, March 30th to ban dishwasher detergents with high amounts of phosphorous, bringing Oregon in line with other states including Michigan, Ohio, Washington, Massachusetts, and Maryland, that have already adopted a restriction on phosphates in residential dish detergents. Portland Senator Jackie Dingfelder introduced the bill after she learned that states like Illinois, Ohio and Massachusetts had approved bans that go into effect July 2010. Unfortunately there are problems; the low-phosphorous soaps don't work well in commercial dishwashers and for that reason would be exempt from the ban. The soaps also are less effective in hard water. In Spokane, where the ban has already gone into effect, desperate housewives have taken to crossing into Idaho for illicit detergents. Oh my goodness, now we have an illegal detergent market! How much time are these serious Queens of Clean going to get if they're caught using THE ILLEGAL DETERGENT?

IT’S APRIL FOOLS DAY POGS!

Behaving foolishly is expected today so here are a few ideas for doing what’s expected:

Frozen mouse - Take a Post-It note and place it over the eye of the victim’s optical mouse. When the victim tries to use his or her computer, the cursor won’t move. Be sure to write “April Fools!” on the note!

Ransom note - Take an item from the victim’s office (something they use a lot such as a special coffee cup, stapler, pencil cup, etc.). Take a picture of the item and leave it on the victim’s desk (in the same spot where the item was located), along with a “ransom” note.

Misplaced coffee cup - Tape magnets to the bottom of an empty coffee cup, and attach it to the top of your car. Other motorists will frantically try to get your attention as you drive by.

If you’re feeling really immature with the victim looking on, pretend you see a fly in the room. Grab a fly swatter and chase it around for awhile. Then make a big swat, reach down and grab the “fly” (actually a raisin you’ve concealed in your hand), and gobble it down.

Or, if you’re feeling really perverse trot yourself down to the nearest Rat Lab and engineer your own glowing green rodent. Just integrate your mouse embryos’ X chromosomes with a transgene that codes for a glowing protein called green florescent protein (GFP).

Or, if you’re one of the rich CEO’s who received millions of dollars in bonuses you can use the new ‘green wall’ product, known as the Core Hydraulic Integrated Arboury panel, on the exterior of your giant skyscraper making it look like a giant gherkin.

Or, if you’re just a poor slob who's lost your shirt in the market then stay at home, watch American Idol, have some mean, green beans and worry about the Conficker worm.

COMICAL CHRONICLES

The genesis of the GREENSTONE patent is truly hilarious. Circa 2001; two punked-out geeks (POGS) brain storming in an out-of-the-way art studio. When the news hit that Chinese weird scientists had essentially grown a pig's ear on a rice plant, the POGS knew intuitively their time had come. WHAT IF . . . ?

POG Parker produced a three-dimensional THC molecule which POG Valentine Coles (VC) promptly put into use, recognizing the endless variation of utility it possessed. Graphically, it was flawless from all angles fitting into any environment seamlessly. POGS spent about a year laughing. Suddenly the molecule disappeared and has not to this day reappeared. Fortunately the molecule lives on in graphics seen around the globe. The loss would have qualified as major if one cared. The molecule is made from AVS industrial epoxy polymer and so it will be somewhere for a very long time. After that POGS often reminisced about the molecule and POG VC once suffered a short melancholy for the molecule which had become part of everyday life.

The following two years were spent thinking about the molecule, talking about the molecule and POG VC's penchant, dreaming about the molecule. POG Parker took action and started writing about the molecule. The deeper POGS travelled into the quantum reality of the molecule, they realized the Mandelbrot nature of GREENSTONE and ran with it in total disbelief that someone smarter (or dumber) than the two POGS combined was not racing them to the patent finish line. In the words of one on-line supergeek, "Why didn't I think of that?" There were a few glitches along the way like when an unnamed POG left the patent unprotected on-line for about a year previous to its filing with the USPTO. POGS are still laughing about that. At the least it cannot be said that POGS missed giving someone, anyone the chance to steal their patent.

COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS RELATING TO EXTENSIBLE TRANSGENIC VECTOR ASSEMBLER, PESTILENCE RIDDER, PLUS CANNABINOID PRODUCER was filed with the USPTO on August 7, 2007, after three years of writing and rewriting. At that point the venture had become an exceptional lark; POGS had nothing to lose. Needless to say attorneys did not get one green cent out of the POGS. Their method was all, by hand, partying all the way (giving special props to the Green Faerie).

In the early morning hours of February 12, 2009, POG VC woke from a dream about EnzymaticTHC.com, the original patent site. The dream seemed odd since POGS had not really thought much about the patent application for some time, like a year and a half, mentioning it only in passing. One thing for sure, THE MOLECULE WAS ON THE MOVE. The POGS conferred that evening, agreeing that they did not know what was going on (the usual); they came to the decision that a new website was definitely in order and were overjoyed . . . another excuse to party.

Within a few hours after taking POG Parker's key words to heart and mind (stone, rock, green, emerald) POG VC came up with GREENSTONE, completely unaware that GREENSTONE represented many things: New Zealand jade, Maori talismans, and POG Parker's fave GREENSTONE.ORG. Our GREENSTONE page design, colors and logo reflect many of these elements. Times-Maori font with a graphic overlay of green marble, stone-grey background color and the 'S' in the GREENSTONE logo fashioned from a New Zealand Manaia talisman derived from the word 'mana.'

A mere week had past when POG Agent Parker received a letter from the USPTO advising that GREENSTONE had been published on February 12, 2009. POG VC then realized the meaning of her dream; the molecule had landed and parked at the United States Patent Office. Best thing about it is ad valorem the years of laughter ahead for the POGS.

NOT SO JOLLY GREEN GIANT

Hulk Hogan (GG) underwent surgery for two ruptured discs. OUCH! This fact came out during a verbal tiff outside a Florida courtroom with GG’s estranged wife’s attorney, Ray Rafool (FOOL), when a reporter asked GG why he was on crutches. The argument began when GG attempted to interject a comment while FOOL was commenting to the press. The Hulkster was trying to have some of his $GREEN$10,000,000 This month our own green giant unfrozen. FOOL had argued against that claiming GG is misspending marital assets.

FOOL shouts “Are you gonna to wrestle with me here?...are you gonna come across the cameras? Then be quiet.” “It's a free world,” GG replied. “No, it's not a free world,” FOOL said. “It's called professionalism.” It appears to POG VC FOOL was making a subtle criticism our Hulkster's profession, seeming to forget that it was GG's years of professionalism in wrestling that was responsible for accruing the marital $GREEN$, and showed a lack of respect for the fact that GG was paying his bills, and that is a ton of $GREEN$! FOOL needs a good dose of pestilence ridder .

Hulkster’s soon-to-be ex-wife is Linda Bolea, nee Claridge (Mrs. GG). Mrs. GG, who has been a stay-at-home mom, is now in a bitter divorce action with GG. Attorneys for GG filed documents Monday asking that he be given $GREEN$300,000 from the frozen assets so he could pay his bills. In December, Mrs. GG was granted $GREEN$400,000 to pay attorneys' fees (see what I'm saying?).

Now the Hulkster has been a cheating GREEN GIANT, stepping out on Mrs. GG with his daughter’s friend, Christiane Plante who was thirty years old at the time.
Mrs. GG did not cheat but after filing for divorce in November of 2007 at the age of fifty one, she began dating Charlie Hill, nineteen years old at the time. Hill was a student at the GREEN GIANT’s children’s high school, one grade above his son and one grade below his daughter. Mrs. GG and Hill broke up in May of 2008. Sounds like an oozy green poopy mess. Appears the GGs could also use a good dose of Greenstone!

GREEN HUMOR

Jon Stewart host of Comedy Central’s Daily Show took hyper-kinetic Jim Cramer of CNBC’s Mad Money and cofounder of TheStreet.com to task yesterday for his incredible ineptitude leading up to the economic meltdown which cost many people a lot of GREEN saying, "I know you want to make finance entertaining, but it's not a [expletive] game." Cramer’s defense was, "It's difficult to have a reporter say, 'I just came from an interview with [former Treasury Secretary] Hank Paulson and he lied his damn fool head off.' It's difficult. I think it challenges the boundaries." Lame answer. Stewart’s reply: "I'm under the assumption...you don't just take their word at face value."

POG VC does not think the millions of GREEN lost by the hardworking green gals and guys across America is the least bit funny. She does think Jon Stewart’s professionally executed roast of Jim Cramer darkly comedic, and well deserved. Not because Cramer messed up - let’s face it the Securities and Exchange Commission, Congress and the Treasury Department messed up. At least Cramer admitted “I should do a better job;” at least Cramer was humble (and humiliated). Can’t say that about the above mentioned. And then there’s Bernie Maddoff, but that’s another POST.

THE KING OF MEAN

The King of Mean, 70-year-old Bernie (MADDOG) Madoff, who brazenly made off with a $GREEN$ 50,000,000,000 in a ponzi scheme that defies, well, the law? Logic? Common decency? MADDOG’s ten million dollar bail was revoked by U.S. District Judge Denny Chin and he was sent to the Metropolitan Correctional Center next door to the courthouse to await sentencing. MADDOG admitted to essentially playing Monopoly, which is the only game he is going to be playing for a long time; he certainly has experience in using paper money and now has been ordered to GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL. Leona Helmsley, known as The Queen of Mean, was a piker in comparison.

Small compensation to the folks whose $GREEN$ was misbegotten by MADDOG, as well as the populace of the entire country who are enraged and rightly so. It's is not only his $Green$Greed that has everyone fired up. MADDOG's whining about being put under penthouse arrest limiting his $GREEN$ lifestyle is like pouring kerosene on flames. Any one of us would have been hauled off to Rikers Island prison and that ain't green. New Yorkers in particular are thirsting for blood; understandable as they were overwhelmingly affected. Not since Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were tried, found guilty of conspiracy to commit espionage, and executed has there been such an outcry. There was a reason for his wearing a bullet-proof jacket to court yesterday - if they can't get their $GREEN$ back, they want his head! POG VC believes if we were not a society of laws MADDOG would be guillotined in Times Square.

Known as the California Solar Initiative, it will provide 3,000 MWs of additional clean energy and reduce the output of greenhouse gases by more than two million tons. The more than $GREEN$3,000,000 incentive plan for homeowners and building owners who install solar electric systems will lead to one million solar roofs in California by the year 2017.

September 2008 - GG signs two laws that begin a shift in California toward a strong focus on green chemistry. Assembly Bill 1879 will establish and define California's Environmental Protection Agency's and the state Department of Toxic Substances Control's oversight of hazardous chemicals and the everyday products in which they are contained. These bills begin building the nation's most comprehensive green chemistry program based on science.

October, 2008 - GG installs the last of 1,727 solar panels on the rooftop of the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The 345 kilowatt photovoltaic solar system covers 24,196 square feet of the arena's rooftop and is the latest green action taken by the STAPLES management team. GG tours the Contessa Manufacturing Plant, the first frozen food facility in the world to be certified as a green building under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. The plant has waterless urinals that will save 200,000 gallons of water each year and solar panels the length of two football fields on its rooftop. GG has set a goal of increasing California's renewable energy sources to 20 percent by 2010, and he supports reaching 33 percent by 2020. Also, GG announces that California has partnered with SunEdison to provide a zero-emission 8 megawatt solar photovoltaic system to power 15 California State University campuses.

March 3, 2009 - GG is this year’s guest of honor at the CeBIT fair and kicks off the world's biggest high-tech fair Tuesday, telling executives to seize the economic crisis as a moment to shape up and go "green.” GG toured stands with Chancellor Angela Merkel and dropped by IBM's booth. GG said that as the information technology sector's carbon footprint grows larger by the year, now is the time to promote more energy efficiency to cut costs as well as reduce emissions. "The only way we can move forward is not just with the will but with the technology." GG came to the fair with fifty firms from California, most from the valetudinarian (had to do that) Silicon Valley.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown GJ filed eleven felony charges yesterday against Howard K. Stern and two doctors, Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich. Jerry alleges they provided the late Anna Nicole Smith, whose death was ruled an accidental overdose, with thousands of prescription drugs, including opiates and sedatives. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.

Ostensibly, GJ appears to be as green as one can be. He likes arugula, broccoli and flax multibran cereal; hiked to the top of half dome; made first trip to Yosemite National Park at the age of four; and his first car was a 1974 green Plymouth. While serving as California Governor as did his father GJ was nicknamed “Governor Moonbeam” as a result of his unorthodox ideas like the establishment of a state space academy and the purchase of a satellite that would be launched into orbit to provide emergency communications for the state. At the time POG VC thought GJ innovative and misunderstood.

Back in the mid-1970’s GJ could occasionally be seen dating high-profile women, the most notable of whom was Linda Ronstadt, who he took to Africa. As a result of the press stalking them to the airport Linda hid in the ladies room. The couple made the cover Newsweek magazine in April 1979. In a 1975 interview with Rolling Stone “Heartbreak on Wheels” by Ben Fong-Torres, Linda admitted resorting to “plenty of cocaine” during the Neil Young tour in 1973. In the same article she said she has taken just about every drug around, she said in answer to a question. But she's given up almost every one. Grass once made her hands swell, she said. Cocaine made her "feel terrible. And I also can't take opiates." Nor can she drink. A steady diet of gin, she said, made her dizzy and she thought she had vertigo. Other drinks gave her skin rashes. She tried heroin "once or twice, but it's not for me." She can take speed and declared Methedrine her only remaining vice. H-m-m-m-m-m...timeline...early ‘70’s...h-m-m-m-m-m. During those years POG VC attended a Ronstadt concert and Linda was literally carried on and off the stage. POG VC was struck at how she managed to perform beautifully in her obviously stoned condition.

There is no judgment here. POG VC cares not what GJ and Linda did or did not do and
is not advocating for the use of drugs by Linda, Anna Nicole or anyone. POG VC's point is if GJ is so adamant, "These individuals repeatedly and excessively furnished thousands of prescription pills to Anna Nicole Smith, often for no legitimate medical purpose," then why in all these years as a politician has he not looked into the individuals who provided his once girlfriend the illegal drugs she readily admits to taking? NOW THAT’S HYPOCRISY!

Further, then Governor of California GJ often visited his friend Gary Snyder's (known as the Zen Poet and winner of the 1974 Pulitzer Prize for poetry) farmhouse Kitkitdizze, a destination and hangout for hippies. Snyder participated in the Six Gallery reading in San Francisco, at which Allen Ginsberg first read Howl. Poet Ginsberg authored the Great Marijuana Hoax: First Manifesto to End the Bringdown published in November of 1966 and also admitted that he had “smoked a lot of marijuana.” Through a recommendation from friend Gary Snyder, Governor GJ named Coyote to the California Arts Council in 1975. The next year he was named its chairman, remaining head of the Council from 1976 to 1983. As head of the council PC acted as an advocate for and funder of all sorts of arts programs and grants throughout the state.

Peter Coyote who also visited Kitkitdizze back in the day, performed with a guerillatheater group the San Francisco Mime Troupe who at that time was managed by a young Bill Graham. Coyote began running with the Diggers, a legendary group at
the time, which organized free public music performances by such groups as The Grateful Dead and Big Brother & the Holding Company. Coyote claims in his memoir Sleeping Where I Fall: A Chronicle that Janis Joplin, lead singer for BB&HC, was a good friend and a "sometime lover, sometime dope partner." As we all know Janis died tragically from a drug overdose in 1970.

As Coyote had lived in the late ‘60’s at Olema (“Coyote Valley” in the indigenous Miwok language) commune on the Point Reyes Peninsula in Northern California which he founded and was considered its patriarch. The commune was infamously referenced in Lowell (Banana) Levinger’s “Hippy From Olema” recorded by his group The Youngbloods who also lived on the peninsula, POG VC was not surprised when Minnie DiPrima, daughter of Diane DiPrima and LeRoi Jones (later known as Imaru Baraka), was named the recipient of a $GREEN$10,000 grant. Minnie was a talented ‘tween but thatsa lotta $GREEN$1 to put in the hands of a fourteen-year old. Diane Di Prima writes in her memoir Recollections Of My Life As A Woman: The New York Years, that she smoked marijuana and hashish, and took LSD before it became illegal.

The point of this rather long GJ history rant by forum standards is clear. Again, no judgment here, just the facts regarding the illegal substances GJ's friends used and in some cases died from. NOW THAT’S HYPOCRISY!

IT'S Pi DAY POGS!

Pi Day is a holiday that celebrates the mathematical constant, Pi (). Pi s a symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter Pi=3.1415926535...millions of digits of Pi. It is celebrated on March 14th because the first three digits of Pi are 3.14 -- although true enthusiasts mark the actual time of the holiday as 1:59 p.m., also known as the Pi Minute, or 1:59:26 p.m., the Pi Second. (While it is possible to estimate with great precision the moment at which the holiday occurs, it is impossible exactly to define.) Pi jokes* are traditionally told on Pi Day. March 14th is also, coincidentally, the birthday of Albert Einstein. On March 11, 2009, the House of Representatives passed a resolution making March 14th officially National Pi Day.

In her youth POG VC was referred to as "The Game Master" because of the fun and often perverse games she would invent. Unknown to the parents of siblings and friends, all played with enthusiasm and an occasional minor injury.** Girl geeks were unusual back then so POG VC hung out with boy geeks, like Hugh Profitt. Hugh kept his MAD magazines hidden under his mattress away from his military officer father. Reading MAD was an act of radical rebellion and a stealth operation!

If a tepee is unavailable, fashion one using any old blankets on hand. Draw straws and herd the participants into the tepee making sure no one can see outside. Sharpen the end of a wooden broom handle until it is pointed and sharp. The person who draws the straw wields the broom handle, arbitrarily poking it into the tepee from the outside, causing mayhem and fear on the inside. The first bean to be porked gets to be the porker. Amazingly, very few injuries occurred.
